Junior and High School golfers are invited to compete in an eighteen-hole qualifier to gain a spot in the 88th New Year’s Invitational to be played January 9-12, 2014 at St. Petersburg Country Club.

Entry fee:  $75.00

For those who qualify there will be no additional fee for the 2014 New Year’s Invitational.  Players will walk and may have a caddie.  Maximum attested handicap index is 8.0.

The field:  Maximum 60 players

Qualifying spots:  Determined by the size of the field

24 Players – 3 Spots; 32 Players – 4 Spots; 40 Players – 5 Spots; 48+ Players – 6 Spots

Practice rounds are available for $30.00 based on availability.

The New Year’s Invitational is one of the oldest amateur tournaments in the country.  The event is four rounds, Thursday-Sunday, with a practice round on Wednesday.  Breakfast and dinner following play are provided to players each round of the tournament.

Our past champions include tour greats, as well as multi-titled amateurs.  Notable winners include Johnny Revolta 1928, Bob Goalby 1956, Eddie Pearce 1970, Gary Koch 1974, Gary Hallberg 1980, Len Mattiace 1986, U. S. Amateur Runner-Up Steve Scott 1999.  1986 U. S. Amateur Champion and longtime University of Florida golf coach Buddy Alexander is a six time winner.

Recent winners Ryuji Imada 1996, Jeff Klauk 2000, J.B. Holmes 2003, Brandt Snedeker 2004, and Jeff Overton 2005, are all players on the PGA Tour.  Luke List, 2004 U.S. Amateur Runner-Up won the Invitational in 2006.  2009 New Year’s winner Peter Uihlein went on to win the U.S. Amateur later that year. 2011 NYI winner Brandon Hagy reached the semi-finals of the 2012 U.S. Amateur.  The event is highly ranked among Amateur events for points in the Amateur rankings.
