The New Year’s Invitational has recognized the lowest scoring senior player since 1983. The format has changed several times over the intervening years, culminating in a Senior Division, as presently constituted, in 2009. Many players with fine amateur records have won our senior championship, including 2021 champion Mike Barkley, who won with a wind-blown score of 224.
The minimum age to play in the Senior Division is 55. Senior entrants must have a USGA handicap index of 7.0 or less. This year we will a have a somewhat reduced field, 100 total, and are limiting the Senior Division to 16 players. We will be using starting times between 7:45 and 12:30. Senior groups will be in foursomes as carts will be provided to senior players. Senior contestants will tee off between 12:00 and 12:30 each day and will play from the middle(white) tees.
The entry fee of $460 includes 3 tournament rounds, January 6-9, and practice round Wednesday, January 5th. Arrangements for an alternate practice round date may be made by contacting our pro shop at 727-864-1595. Boxed lunches, possibly other buffet-style refreshments will be provided each day outside the clubhouse and on the course. There will be a steak cookout following completion of play Saturday.
The senior champion will receive a crystal award. He and the next 4 senior finishers will receive merchandise prizes. These will be awarded Saturday following completion of play.
Entries will be accepted based on overall record, prior NYI participation and timely filing and payment of entry. Entries must be completed online at this website. Upon receipt of entry and payment entrants will be emailed notification of their acceptance.
